Mid Ohio Atheists Inc. is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation committed to supporting atheists by providing opportunities for socializing and friendship, promoting secular viewpoints, encouraging a positive atheist culture, defending the first amendment principle of state-church separation, supporting the civil rights of atheists, and affiliating with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
Who we are
Mid Ohio Atheists Incorporated is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization of like minded people who originally met through the Mansfield News Journal’s website. We wanted to meet and discuss atheism and the separation of church and state in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Our first meeting was on March 8, 2009. After we had been meeting off and on for about a year , in April 2010, we decided to start having monthly meetings. In February 2012 the group was incorporated under the laws of the State of Ohio. In July of 2014 we received acceptance from the IRS to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
Please see the Event Calendar if you would like to join or just come and see what we are about. Most of our meetings are open to the general public as long as you are respectful towards atheists.
Public Service activities
We feel it is important to support the general good of our society and to help those that are less fortunate than us. Therefore, we are involved in donating time and/or money to several worthwhile groups. So far we have supported-
- Harmony House, a homeless shelter in Mansfield
- The Humane Society of Richland County
- The Domestic Violence Shelter, Inc., a non-profit agency serving Richland and Huron counties in Ohio
- Friends of Mansfield Parks (FOMP), in activities beautifying and maintaining area parks
- Adopt a Highway, a State of Ohio, Dept. of Transportation, coordinated activity. Our stretch of highway is Interstate 71, between St. Rt. 13 and St. Rt. 97.
We are looking for other ways in which to help our community, if you know of any other local groups that need help, send a short description of why you think they are important to this area and their contact information to- email@example.com
